The problem about the connection of the server network interface

Publication Date:  2012-12-11 Views:  304 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
1. The server has two network interfaces A, B. Configure the IP addresses for the network interfaces A and B. The B address can ping through the gateway, but the A address can’t ping through the gateway, it can ping through itself. The other devices which are in the same batch and have the same configurations don’t have this problem.
2. The status indictor of the network interface is lighted. Replace the network cable, but the problem is still on.

Alarm Information
Handling Process
1. Firstly, we guess it may be the peer end switch’s problem, connect with the network interface A directly via our notebook PC, we find the interface A displays the address is 1G, however the notebook PC displays the address is 10M. Set the two sides of the network interfaces as 100M, full-duplex compulsively. But we can’t connect through with the network too.
2. Check the network protocol of the system, there isn’t any problem.
3. We guess it may be the server hardware’s problem. Check the hardware, we find the second needle of the network interface has dislocated. Repair it manually, and then the problem has been settled.

Root Cause
Generally, the possible reasons of the network is not connectable are the peer end switch has problem, the network adapter has problem and the hardware has problem.

If the software’s problem has excluded while the network has the connection problem, we can consider the hardware. While checking the hardware, begin from the hardware chips and the outer reasons.
