What Are the Meanings of Patch States?
Solution
In system software, patches fall into four states:
  • IDLE: indicates the initial state. No patch is loaded.
  • DEACTIVATE: The patch has been loaded, but not started.
  • ACTIVATE: The patch is in the trial operating state.
  • RUNNING: The patch is in the normal operating state.
Patches in active state and running state differ in: Patches in active state become invalid after system restart and they do not take effect any longer; whereas patches in running state recover after system reset and they continue to take effect. The active state supplies a cache and prevents continuous operating faults due to patch error.
