Issue Description

Host installs Operation System (Enterprise Oracle Linux 6.6). In order to manage the 5500 V3 that is mapped to the host, to install HUAWEI multipath (UltraPath). But in the process of installation, the error is prompted:“this system is not support.

Alarm Information

Host prompts the error as follows:

Handling Process

In the case of HUAWEI UltraPath does not support Enterprise Oracle Linux 6.6, use the Linux OS self multipath software DM-Multipath to manage 5500 V3 mapped to the host. DM-Multipath can make the I/O multiple path between the server and the storage controller become a single device.

By default, DM-Multipath supports most frequently-used storage arrays. You can find these supported devices in the file multipath.conf. If the storage array supports DM-Multipath but not in this default configuration file, need to manually add it to the DM-Multipath configuration file multipath.conf.

Root Cause

At present the version of HUAWEI multipath (UltraPath) which supports V3 OceanStor series storage is V100R008C00. For the Oracle Linux Enterprise operating system, this UltraPath version (V100R008C00) can only support 6.5 OS version. So UltraPath cant yet support Oracle Linux Enterprise 6.6. This results that in the process of installation, the error is prompted:“this system is not support.

Solution

After install DM-Multipath in Linux OS, in order to manager disks mapped by 5500 V3, need to configure the DM-Multipath configuration file multipath.conf:

Step 1: run vi /etc/multipath.conf, to add corresponding array configuration in the configuration items devices {}.

#

# HUAWEI:5300T V3

#

device {

                vendor                  "HUAWEI"

                product                 "XSG1"

                path_grouping_policy      multibus

                getuid_callout            "/lib/udev/scsi_id --whitelisted --device=/dev/%n"

                path_checker             tur

                path_selector             "round-robin 0"

                failback                  immediate

        }
Step 2: make sure that the configuration items blacklist{} does not set block for the array.

#blacklist {

                   #                devnode “*”

#}

Step 3: After the configuration is modified, run service multipathd reload or systemctl reload multipathd.service, to reload the configuration and make the modification valid.

multipath –F

service multipathd reload or systemctl reload multipathd.service

multipath –v2

Step 4: Run multipath - ll , to check the effect of the modification.

Suggestions

This issue belongs to multipath compatibility. In some scenarios, the customer cant use HUAWEI UltraPath software, it needs to use the Linux OS self multipath software DM-Multipath. By default, HUAWEI storage supports most mainstream multipath software, but when different OS self multipath softwares manager HUAWEI storage, it needs to do some configuration. Suggest to deal with similar issues, firstly read the product compatibility document to identify whether the customer environment supports.
