Can't Ping MUX from PC but Can Ping PC to PC through WAN between R1760 Router and C Router

Publication Date:  2012-07-27 Views:  60 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The setup of network is connect router to lanswitch, and lanswitch was connected to PC and MUX. On the WAN side we use leased line. It goes through WAN cloud and reach another hop with the same setup, Router---> Lanswitch ---> PC/MUX.
Alarm Information
From one end to another end PC to PC is able to ping but PC to MUX is failed. Capture the packet through ethereal and found that the ICMP packet sent was not replied by the MUX. The MUX send broadcast packet to find back the destination of the ICMP packet sent to it.
Handling Process
Enable arp-proxy on ethernet interface of the router then it works fine. In Huawei router arp-proxy is off by default but in cisco is on by default, that's why using cisco router definitely no problem.
Root Cause
The subnet mask of customer's network is not consistent. Solved it by arp-proxy.
