The Program Is Interrupted Three Minutes Later After the Multicast Protocol Is Enabled on NE80E

Publication Date:  2012-07-27 Views:  23 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
After the multicast protocol is enabled on NE80E, the program is interrupted when the user watches it for three minustes. The networking is as follows:
        NE80E-----T64G (multicast source)
           |
       MA5200G
           |
       S8505
           |
       user
NE80E acts as RP. NE80E, T64G, and MA5200G deploy PIM-SM. The replication point is placed on MA5200G. The program is interrupted when the user watches it for three minustes. Manual switchover is required to recover the problem. However, the program is interrupted again after three minutes.

Alarm Information
Null
Handling Process
The following commands are configured on NE80E:
acl number 2001
 rule 5 permit source 239.254.97.0 0.0.0.255
 rule 10 deny
pim
 static-rp 58.50.124.100 2001
The commands are used to restrict the multicast source of NE80E. Normally, when the user watches the program whose multicast source is 239.254.97.2, ACL permits to receive the packet of the source. However,  239.255.255.250 is on NE80E and it influences ACL of NE80E. NE80E filters packets of 239.254.97.2. Although NE80E receives the multicast packets of MA5200G, it discards them. Delete ACL of static-rp and the service is recovered.

Root Cause
Run the display pim routing command on NE80E:
(*, 239.254.97.2), RP: 58.50.124.100 (local)
     Protocol: pim-sm, Flag: WC
     UpTime: 00:02:05s
     Upstream interface: Register
Upstream neighbor: NULL, RPF prime neighbor: NULL
     Downstream interface(s) information:
     Total number of downstreams: 1
         1: GigabitEthernet5/0/8
             Protocol: pim-sm, UpTime: 02:05 Expires: 00:01:25
(*, 239.255.255.250), RP: 58.50.124.100 (local)
     Protocol: pim-sm, Flag: WC
     UpTime: 1d:06h
     Upstream interface: Register
Upstream neighbor: NULL, RPF prime neighbor: NULL
     Downstream interface(s) information:
     Total number of downstreams: 2
         1: GigabitEthernet5/0/8
             Protocol: pim-sm, UpTime: 1d:06h, Expires: 00:02:43
         2: GigabitEthernet5/0/5
             Protocol: pim-sm, UpTime: 1d:06h, Expires: 00:03:20
When the user watches the program whose multicast source is 239.254.97.2,  expires is reduced. When it is reduced to 0,  NE80E sends prune packet to T64G. T64G stopts forwarding packets and the service is interrupted. NE80E sends prune packet for three minutes becasue it regards that expire is not refreshed. NE80E does not receive join group packet of MA5200G. After three minutes, NE80E regards that the user is timeout.

Suggestions
Do not add ACL to static-rp.
