Q:

In the test, the dual-homed UMG is connected to two CE devices and VRRP is run between the two CE devices. The VRRP switchover time must be tested frequently. To do that, testers are used to emulate the UMG devices and this requires that the destination MAC address of packets sent by the testers change dynamically according to the next hop.

Handling Process

A:

1. When the console is the SmartWindow, connect the tester and the device to be tested. Make sure the test port must be in Up status (the indicator LINK is green). On the tester, set the packet sending mode to SmartMetric Mode as shown in attachment 1. Create a traffic flow and set the source IP address, destination IP address, packet length, rate as required and set the destination MAC address to FFFF-FFFF-FFFF as shown in attachment 2. As shown in attachment 3, select Apply Resolved Dst.MAC Addr under the tab page General in the dialog box Port Setup. Before sending packets, select Layer 3 Send ARP Requests. Thus, the destination MAC addresses of packets sent by the tester can be upgraded according to the MAC addresses dynamically learnt by ARP.
2. When the console is the TeraRouting (TRT), connect the tester and the device to be tested. Make sure the test port must be in Up status (the indicator LINK is green). Create a traffic flow and set the source IP address, destination IP address, packet length, rate as required and set the destination MAC address to auto as shown in attachment 5. No other change is required.
