Solaris GUI Cannot Be Logged in Properly Because the Veritas License Expires

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  40 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
A carrier deploys the N2000 BMS for the first time. After the server SUN FIRE V890 is powered on, you cannot log in to the Solaris desktop systems except for the console mode. The system prompts "The file system is discontinuous, and you need to fix the system through fsck manually". Run the fsck -y command to fix the system manually. The system prompts that fsck is needed to run again on unmounted file systems for manual fixing. Three unmounted file systems are as follows:
/dev/vx/rdsk/bootdg/home, /dev/vx/rdsk/n2kdg_N2000Primary/lv_sybase, /dev/vx/rdsk/n2kdg_N2000Primary/lv_n2000.

Alarm Information
The file system is discontinuous, and you need to fix the system through fsck manually.
Handling Process
1. Run the fsck command manually to fix the following file systems:
fsck -y /dev/vx/rdsk/bootdg/home
fsck -y /dev/vx/rdsk/n2kdg_N2000Primary/lv_sybase
fsck -y /dev/vx/rdsk/n2kdg_N2000Primary/lv_n2000
After the system is restarted, the problem persists.
2. Mount the following file systems manually:
mount /dev/vx/dsk/n2kdg_N2000Primary/lv_sybase /opt/sybase
mount /dev/vx/dsk/n2kdg_N2000Primary/lv_n2000 /opt/n2000
After the system is restarted, the problem persists.
3. Check whether the pre-installation is correct, and whether vxconfigured is enabled according to the installation guide. The following exception is found:
#vxdctl mode
mode:booted
In the normal state, it must be enabled. The exception indicates that problems occur to the volume management of Veritas.
4. Check the validity of the license for Veritas:
#vxlicrep
The Veritas license expired. Perform the "Countermeasures Against the Expiration of Veritas License" in the installation guide and restart the system. The problem is solved. Now, you can log in to Solaris.
5. Apply for a formal Veritas license from the Sysmatic website. Replace the expired Veritas license with the granted formal one. Modify the time and time zone. And then restart the system. The problem is solved thoroughly.

Root Cause
The license of the Veritas expires, which causes the file system fail to be mounted.
Suggestions
The Solaris, Sybase, and Veritas are preinstalled in HQ before delivery. The temporary license of the Veritas often expires after it is delivered to the site. If you find that you fail to log in to the Solaris CDE desktop system on site, do as what described in this case to solve the problem.
