The Difference for Configuring the GE Service and Any Service When the TOM Board Is Used as a Tributary and Line Board in Non-Cascading Mode

Issue Description
Multiple TOM boards are configured on the OptiX OSN 8800 equipment for an OTN project of an office. The network planning specifies that certain boards access four channels of Any services each with rates from 100 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s and certain boards access eight channels of GE services each. The cooperation partner engineers do not know the difference for configuring Any services and GE services. In the NE test, when the TOM boards are configured to access STM-16 services and external loopbacks are performed on the optical interfaces, the SDH analyzer that is connected to the OptiX OSN 8800 equipment shows that certain boards are normal and certain boards have a large number of bit errors.

Handling Process

The customer requires that the TOM board carry GE services and services with rates from 100 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s. Therefore, the engineering design specifies that certain TOM boards access four channels of Any services each with rates from 100 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s and certain boards access eight channels of GE services each. The descriptions of the optical modules for Any services and GE services are "Description=2500Mb/s-1310nm-LC-15km(0.009mm)" and "Description=1300Mb/s-1310nm-LC-10km(0.009mm)" respectively. In the NE test, the TOM boards are configured to access STM-16 services and external loopbacks are performed on the optical interfaces. When the OptiX OSN 8800 equipment is connected to a 2.5G SDH analyzer, the boards that are configured with 2.5G optical modules are normal and the boards that are configured with 1.3G optical modules have a large number of bit errors.

The configuration is as follows: In the case of the Any service in the range of 100 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s, set the service type to STM-16 and select the Any service for the service level and STM-16 for the service type when creating a cross-connection. In the case of the GE service, set the service type to GE and select GE for the service level when creating a cross-connection. In addition, you need to select the Ethernet working mode as auto-negotiation or 1000M full-duplex for the TOM board in the area for configuring advanced attributes on the page for configuring interface attributes of WDM boards. After the configuration, test the Any service at the rate of 2.5 Gbit/s by using an SDH analyzer and test the GE service by using a GE tester. The test result indicates that the services are normal.

The service configuration is incorrect.
Suggestions
TOM boards can access Any services with rates from 100 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s with the support of client-side optical modules. The configurations for Any services and GE services are different. Therefore, the associated documents must be complete and updated to guide the field engineers and cooperation partner engineers for the deployment commissioning.
