The Connected S9306s Cannot Be Pinged Because of the Same MAC Address

Publication Date:  2012-07-27 Views:  34 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Two S9306s are connected on the same network segment. Then the two S9306s cannot ping each other. The interface status is normal, but one S9306 can only send packets and the other S9306 can only receive packets.

Alarm Information
 Null

Handling Process

 1. Check the optical power, and find that the optical power is proper. After the fiber is replaced, the problem persists.
2. Check the data configuration and use other switches for testing. In this case, the communication is normal. This indicates that the configuration is correct.
3. Check the device status carefully, and find that the MAC addresses of the two S9306s are the same.
Restore the factory default setting of the MAC address through the command and restart the S9306. The problem is solved.
Operation procedure:
<9306>system
Enter system view, return user view with Ctrl+Z.
[9306]_h
Now you enter a hidden command view for developer’s testing, some commands may affect operation by wrong use, please carefully use it with HUAWEI engineer’s direction.
[9306-hidecmd]restore system-mac
The public mac-address restore pass.
[9306-hidecmd]
The slave public mac-address restore pass.

Root Cause
  1. The fiber is faulty. For example, the optical power exceeds the threshold.
2. The configuration, for example, the IP address, is incorrect.
3. The MAC addresses of devices conflict.

Suggestions
The MAC address of each SRU is stored in the flash. After the standby SRU starts, it synchronizes
the MAC address of the active SRU, and then writes the MAC address in another area of the flash.
The standby SRU then uses this MAC address. If the standby SRU functions as the active SRU after
being installed on another device, the MAC address of this SRU conflicts with the MAC address of the active SRU in the previous environment.
You can use the following command on the S9306 to restore the default MAC address of the SRU:
[9306-hidecmd]restore system-mac
