What is the role of MTU size in the network? and what is draw back in making whole netwok with high MTU size?

Root Cause
MTU-it is the Maximum transfer unit,it means that the port can transmit the packet without  fragment to that value set on the interface.
By default mtu size on maximum equipment comes 1500,it means that packet will pass without fragmnet upto 1500 size.
Drawback of increasing MTU size:
1. Large packets can occupy a slow link for some time, causing greater delays to following packets and increasing lag and minimum latency
2. Large packets are also problematic in the presence of communications errors. Corruption of a single bit in a packet requires that the entire packet be retransmitted. At a given bit error rate larger packets are more likely to be corrupted. Retransmissions of a larger packet takes longer.
