Precautions for Conversion Between STM-1 and STM-4 Line Boards on the OptiX OSN 500

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  105 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The OptiX OSN 500 supports conversion between line ports for STM-1 and STM-4 services. That is, on the line board, STM-1 services can be upgraded to STM-4 services and STM-4 services can be downgraded to STM-1 services without service interruption.
Alarm Information
None.
Handling Process

Pay attention to the following problems in the conversion process of the line ports.

1. The NMS supports an upgrade from STM-1 services to STM-4 services, and STM-1 services can be directly changed to STM-4 services on the T2000 or U2000.

2. The NMS does not support a downgrade from STM-4 services to STM-1 services. Run the following command to change the services.

:cfg-set-phybd:8,sl1d,"dangerous"

Where, dangerous indicates the changed password.

3. When upgrading STM-1 services to STM-4 services, you do not need to delete the logical board and the corresponding configuration data and cross-connections.

When downgrading from STM-4 services to STM-1 services, you need to delete the logical board and the corresponding configuration data and cross-connections. For this reason, the T2000 does not support this function, and commands are required for the downgrade.

4. When upgrading from STM-1 services to STM-4 services, ensure that the optical module operates at a rate of 622 Mbit/s.

After the downgrade from STM-4 services to STM-1 services, you can use a 155 Mbit/s or 622 Mbit/s optical module. If the STM-1 line board uses a 622 Mbit/s optical module, the LASER_MOD_ERR_EX alarm may be reported, indicating that the port does not match with the optical module.
Root Cause

The OptiX OSN 500 supports conversion between line ports for STM-1 and STM-4 services. During the conversion period, some issues need to be considered, for example, change modes, change conditions, and alarms.

Exercise caution in practice.
Suggestions
