Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  87 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

Q:

In N2510 ATAE blade server, usually we have 2 or four blades, If we lose root password of one blade, we can recover it from other one that we know its password.

Now, how we can do it ?

Alarm Information

Null

Handling Process

Boot both blades with bootable linux CD in single user mode.

In the second blade that we lost its password, execute following commands:

#mount /dev/sda2 /mnt

#vi /mnt/etc/shadow

In the first line, you can see root password encrypted like this string:

root:$20$05$w28jksvScuH7MS8XArkOE./4fvbmo0RQeqFMCcDV6p.Aoh9fudcSU:99999::::::

root::99999::::::

change the first line to be the exactly as the first line of other blade, then save the file and unmount all partitions and reboot the system and boot normally.

The root password of second server will be exactly the same as first server.
