FAQ-Send ICMP to 0.0.0.5 due to the wrong NIC monitor configuration in the Veritas HA

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  9 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
On 2011-07,customer T report that thet capture an strange thing in the firewall,U2000 HA server send ICMP to the 0.0.0.5 always.
Alarm Information
Null
Handling Process
Snippet from VCS configuration /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/config/main.cf:
 NIC vvrnic (
  Device = e1000g1
  NetworkHosts = { "@NetworkHosts" }
  )

Subsequently the monitor script will attempt to read remaining arguments passed by the agent (none), for "1" iterations:ping <null> 5 2,which is interpreted by the shell as: ping 5 2  # equivalent to "ping 0.0.0.5 2"Note that in VCS 2.0, and above, the monitor script will attempt to ping 0.0.0.5.
To resolve this issue, config the gateway IP to the NIC monitor as follow:
# haconf -makerw
# hares -modify vvrnic NetworkHosts x.x.x.x (gateway IP)
# hares -dump -makero

The monitor script will attempt to ping gateway ip and when that fails,  will resort to pinging the broadcast address which allows the monitor function to pass.Then no error message will be reported.
