Q:

When the user chooses the program, then the STB(Set Top Box) will send the IGMP message to ONU(Optical Network Unit), so which VLAN is tagged from the ONU side? when the media stream is coming down from the olt side, so which VLAN is used to receive the stream on ONU side?

Handling Process

A:

 In GPON (Gigabit-capable Passiv Optical Network ) multicast service single-copy mode: the S-VLAN (Service VLAN) is used to carry the IGMP message from ONU(Optical Network Unit) to OLT(Optical Network Terminal); the M-VLAN (multicast VLAN ) is used to carry the multicast media stream from the OLT to ONU, the gemport 4095 (default) is used to forward the multicast stream from OLT to ONU.

Network Topology: IPTV server->IP network->OLT(MA5600T)->ONT(HG850)->STB-->TV
Describe:  OLT uplink port 0/19/0, OLT GPON port 0/20, SVLAN 8, MVLAN 200, ONU id 0, gem port 4, ONU eth port 3->STB

In GPON  multicast single-copy mode: the ONU send the IGMP message via SVLAN, in the case the VLAN 8 is tagged on ONU side , and then OLT receive the IGMP message from SVLAN 8.

In GPON multicast single-copy mode: the multicast stream is carried via multicast gem port 4095 from OLT to ONU direction, the VLAN is MVLAN 200, so the ONU can receive the multicast stream from VLAN 200.
