a X3650 M2 Server Fails to be Started from Local Disks after it is Connected to a Storage Device

Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  86 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
After LUNs are mapped to an IBM X3650 M2 server configured with QLE2462 HBA, the operating system cannot be started when the server is restarted. The operating system cannot be entered in both direct connection mode and SAN connection mode. After the mapped LUNs are deleted, the operating system can be entered. Based on the configuration information about the HBA, the server cannot be started from the storage device.

Root Cause
This is a fixed problem for the server that uses Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) . When the Qlogic or Emulex HBA is used to connect to an external storage device, the server can be started from local disks by adding a boot option.
Suggestions
For all servers that use the UEFI, the boot option needs to be changed; otherwise, after the server is connected to an external storage device, the server cannot be started from local disks.
