All Member Disk of a RAID Group Vecome Offline Because a Member Disk Fails in the S5300 Storage System

Issue Description
On a deployment site, a member disk of a RAID group in the S5300 storage system fails, which causes that all member disks become offline and all LUNs are unavailable.

Handling Process

Step 1 Back up the DB of the S5300 storage system.

 

Step 2 Ensure that the physical status of all faulty disks in enclosure 0 is normal.

 

Step 3 Log in to the primary controller and restore the logical status of disks and LUNs in MML mode.

 

1. Run the following command to restore the association relationship of disk 11. spu ui>revive association 0 11 0 23

 

2.Run the following commands to restore the status of all disks. spu ui> revive disk 0 0 spu ui> revive disk 0 1 spu ui> revive disk 0 2 spu ui> revive disk 0 3 spu ui> revive disk 0 4 spu ui> revive disk 0 5 spu ui> revive disk 0 7 spu ui> revive disk 0 8 spu ui> revive disk 0 9 spu ui> revive disk 0 10 spu ui> revive disk 0 12 spu ui> revive disk 0 13 spu ui> revive disk 0 14 spu ui> revive disk 0 15 spu ui> revive disk 0 16 spu ui> revive disk 0 17 spu ui> revive disk 0 18 spu ui> revive disk 0 19 spu ui> revive disk 0 20 spu ui> revive disk 0 21 spu ui> revive disk 0 22

 

3. Run the following command to restore LUNs spu ui> revive raidlun 0

 

4. Remove and insert disk 6 to reconstruct it.

 

5. After the reconstruction of disk is complete, replace disk 11 and perform copyback.

Root Cause
Based on the log analyses, after disk (0, 11) fails, hot spare disk (0, 23) takes over the services on the faulty disk. Other disks are rejected due to a FC loop problem.
Suggestions
Back up the DB before important operations. Determine the sequence of restoring the logical status of the faulty disks.
