On a deployment site, a Windows 2003 server is connected to a V1800 storage array. Seven 500 GB disks form a RAID 5 group on which two 1 TB LUNs are configured. The two LUNs are used as the storage space of the file share server. Based on the increased services, the capacity of LUN 2 needs to be extended by 500 GB to 1.5 TB online.
Based on the LUN extension function of the S5100, expand the disk mapped to the Windows 2003 server online and then extend the LUN on the Windows 2003 server. The procedure is as follows:
Step 1 Log in to the management interface of the S5100.
Step 2 Select the LUN to be extended and click the LUN Extension button.
Step 3 Type 500,000 MB and click Yes. Format the LUN.
Step 4 Enter the server CLI, run the diskpart command, and run the list disk command to view the disk on the server.
DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### status capacity available capacity dynamic Gpt
-------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disk 0 online 75 GB 0 B
Disk 1 online 1000 GB 0 B
Disk 2 online 1000 GB 0 B
Step 5 Run the select disk 2 command to select the disk to be extended, and run the list partition command to view the partition on disk 2.
DISKPART> list partition
LUN ### type capacity deviation
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
LUN 1 master 1000 GB 32 KB
Step 6 Run the select partition 1 command to select the LUN to be extended.
Step 7 Run the extend command.
DISKPART> select partition 1
LUN 1 is the selected LUN.
Executing the DiskPart command extends the LUN successfully.
Step 8 Open My Computer to view the extended disk. The capacity of the disk is 1.5 TB and the disk can be normally accessed.
Step 9 Online LUN extension succeeds.
1. Only the last LUN on each RAID group of the V1800 can be extended when the RAID group has available space.
2. To implement the dynamic extension of the file system, the disk must be a dynamic disk. Otherwise, the extend command cannot be used.
