SUSE 9 OS Fails to Identify the LUNs Mapped by the S6800 Storage Device

Publication Date:  2012-07-20 Views:  79 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Ten LUNs are configured on the S6800 and mapped to five servers. Each two LUNs are mapped to one server. The servers are directly connected to the S6800 by using a single link. A server cannot identify the two LUNs mapped by the S6800.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
Step 1  Check whether the owning controller of the two LUNs is consistent with the controller connected to the server by using optical fibers. If they are inconsistent, switch the owning controller of the two LUNs to the controller connected to the server.
Step 2  Check the LUN IDs by using the storage management software. If the IDs of the two LUNs are 4 and 5, reset the LUN IDs to 0 and 1.
Step 3  Restart the server after previous operations are complete. If the server still cannot identify the two LUNs mapped by the S6800. Run the lsscsi command to view the two LUNs.
[3.0.0.0]    disk    ENGENIO    INF-01-00    0619    /dev/sdc
[3.0.0.1]    disk    ENGENIO    INF-01-00    0619    /dev/sdd
The fault is caused by the inaccurate mounting sequence of the FC HBA drive. Run the following commands in turn:
[root@sjw /]# rmmod qla2300
[root@sjw /]# rmmod qla2xxx
[root@sjw /]# modprobe qla2xxx
[root@sjw /]# modprobe qla2300
Run the fdisk command to check whether the two LUNs can be identified by the server.
Root Cause
1. As the servers are directly connected to the S6800 by using a single link, a server may not be connected to the owning controller of the two LUNs. For example, the two LUNs belong to controller A, but the sever to which the two LUNs are mapped is connected to controller B.
2. The LUN IDs are not numbered from 0.
3. The FC HBA drive is improperly installed.

Suggestions
1. If a storage device is connected to the server by using a single link, ensure that the owning controller of the LUNs is consistent with the controller connected to the server.
2. If the LUNs on a storage device are mapped to different host groups, LUN IDs must be numbered from 0.
