S5100 storage device cannot be remotely managed after its controller version is upgraded

Publication Date:  2012-07-20 Views:  45 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
On a deployment site, after the controller version of the S5100 is remotely upgraded on the OSM Web page and the system is restarted, the S5100 cannot be accessed remotely.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
In the customer’s equipment room, log in to the OSM by using the previous IP address of the management network port and verify that the controller version has been successfully upgraded, and then upgrade the SES version and the multipathing software on the server. Explain the reason to the customer and advise the customer to solve the network configuration problem.
Root Cause
The IP address of the management network port on the S5100 has no relevant gateway on the VLAN so that the IP address cannot be routed to the provincial center. The IP address of the service network port, however, can be routed to the provincial center through the gateway. To implement remote management, the service network port and the management network port of the S5100 are mixed. After the controller version of the S5100 is upgraded from C02B030 to the latest C0B034, the function of mixing of the service network port and the management network port is disabled. Therefore, the S5100 cannot be managed by using the IP address of the service network port.
Suggestions
As the latest controller version of the S5100 does not support the mixing of the service network port and the management network port, do not mix the service network port and the management network port after controller version upgrade.
