How to Configure SUN Multipathing Software on the S3100/S3200/S6800 Series Storage Devices?

Publication Date:  2012-07-20 Views:  101 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The front-end server runs the Solaris 9 OS and SUN MPXIO multipathing software. After the server is connected to a Huawei Symantec storage device in SAN mode, run the format command on the OS to check that the newly added disk is displayed but all LUNs mapped to the server cannot be displayed and labeled.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
To use the SUN MPXIO mutlipathing software, StorageTek SAN 4.4.9 ~ 11 must be patched to correctly identify the storage device. (You need to register on the SUN Web site and download the patch.)
After the patch software is installed, modify configuration file /kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf. Change mpxio-disable="yes" to mpxio-disable="no", save the change, and exit. Run the Reboot -r command to restart the server.
Run the format command to ensure that all LUNs mapped to the server can be correctly displayed and labeled. The fault is rectified.
Root Cause
If the newly added disk is displayed, it indicates the server is properly connected to the storage device and the fault lies in the OS or the OS type.
Suggestions
When the storage device is connected to different servers, check whether the system needs to upgrade relevant patches.
