How to Change the Fan Gear of the S5100 Storage Device?

Publication Date:  2012-07-20 Views:  34 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
On a deployment site, the temperature of the S5100 controller enclosure is too high at the load wave crest.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
Step 1  Access the S5100 by using the serial port or the remote terminal. Run the debug bash command to enter the debug mode, and then run the mml command to enter the MML mode.
Step 2  Type dev sesfanswitch 0 in MML mode to set the control mode of the controllable fan to manual mode.
Step 3  Type dev sesadjusthigh 0 in MML mode to set the fan gear to high gear.
Root Cause
When the S5100 bears heavy service loads, the controller enclosure has high running power, which causes that the system heat is not completely dissipated.
Suggestions
An intelligent fan can automatically adjust its rotational speed, or you can manually set the fan speed in MML mode.
1. Manual/automatic fan speed control command
dev sesfanswitch 0 (manual)/ 1 (automatic)
2. Fan gear adjustment commands
Run the following commands in MML mode:
Lowest gear: dev sesadjustlowest enclosure ID
Low gear: dev sesadjustlow enclosure ID
Medium gear: dev sesadjustmedium enclosure ID
High gear: dev sesadjusthigh enclosure ID
Usually, you need to adjust the fan gear only from a lower gear to a high gear. It is not recommended to set the fan speed control mode to manual mode.
