How to Troubleshoot the Fault that Host WWN cannot be Discovered when a Host Port is Added in the Networking

Publication Date:  2012-07-20 Views:  118 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Version: AIX OS 5300-08
HBA: LPe11002
After the S5500 is connected to IBM minicomputer by using FC switches, the host WWN cannot be discovered on the OSM 3.0. Therefore, a host port cannot be added. After the S5500 is directly connected to IBM minicomputer without FC switches, the host WWN still cannot be discovered.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
If the host WWN still cannot be discovered after the S5500 is directly connected to IBM minicomputer, the SFP module is replaced, or the host port is replaced, you can perform the following operations to discover the WWN on the host:
Step 1  Run the lsdev |grep fcs command to find the current FC switches fcs0 and fcs1.
Step 2  Run the rmdev -Rdl fcs0 and rmdev -Rdl fcs1 commands to remove FC switches fcs0 and fcs1.
Step 3  Run the cfgmgr -v command to rescan the device.
Step 4  Log in to the OSM again and add a host port. The host WWN is discovered.

Root Cause
As there is no precedent deployment in which the S5500 is connected to IBM minicomputer, R&D engineers do not know the reason.
Suggestions
If the connection is normal during the deployment of the S5000 series storage devices but the host WWN cannot be discovered, it is recommended to rescan the device on the host and then add a host port.
