Disk Enclosure of the S5000 Storage Device Fails to be Detected because of the Cross Connection of Optical Fibers

Issue Description
An S5000 storage device was deployed on a deployment site. Its controller enclosure was connected to a disk enclosure. The ID of the disk enclosure was not displayed on the management interface after the S5000 was powered on.

Handling Process
Step 1  Repower on the disk enclosure and then the controller enclosure. The controller enclosure cannot detect the disk enclosure.
Step 2  Check the optical fibers and find that port EXP0 of controller ID00 is connected to port PRI of expansion port ID01, while port EXP0 of controller ID01 is connected to port PRI of expansion port ID00, that is, the optical fibers are connected crossways.
Step 3  Connect port EXP0 of controller ID00 to port PRI of expansion port ID00, and port EXP0 of controller ID01 to port PRI of expansion port ID01.
Step 4  Repower on the device, the disk enclosure is normally detected. The problem is solved.
 
Root Cause
1. The power-on sequence is incorrect. For a storage array with disk enclosures, you must power on disk enclosures first and then the controller enclosure. Otherwise, the controller enclosure may not identify disk enclosures.
2. The optical fibers between the controller enclosure and disk enclosures are unconnected or improperly connected.
 
Suggestions
  1. Properly connect optical fibers.
  2. Deploy a device strictly according to the operation guide.
