How to Configure STMS Multipathing for Redundant Paths on the Solaris 10 Operating System?

Publication Date:  2012-07-22 Views:  65 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The Oceanspace S2600 directly connects to a server that runs the Solaris 10 operating system. The STMS multipathing does not take effect for redundant paths.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
Step 1  Run the luxadm -e port command to view the port status.
Step 2  Run the fcinfo hba-port or prtconf -vp|grep -i wwn command to view the WWN.
Step 3  After the ports are added, scan disks from the server. The displayed information is as follows:
root@sdbackup # format
Searching for disks...
4. Modify the configuration file fp.conf.
root@sdbackup # vi  /kernel/drv/fp.conf
#
# Copyright 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc.  All rights reserved.
# Use is subject to license terms.
#
# Sun Fibre Channel Port driver configuration
#
...................................................................
# NOTE: If you just want to enable or disable MPxIO on all fp ports, it is
# better to use stmsboot(1M) as it also updates /etc/vfstab.
#
mpxio-disable="yes";  --- Change yes to no, save the file, and exit.
root@sdbackup #
5. Run the cat /kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf command to view whether HUAWEI S2600 is displayed. If no, add the vendor ID and product ID of Huawei S2600.
root@sdbackup # vi scsi_vhci.conf
#
# Copyright 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc.  All rights reserved.
# Use is subject to license terms.
#
#pragma ident   "@(#)scsi_vhci.conf     1.9     04/08/26 SMI"
#
name="scsi_vhci" class="root";
#

#
 device-type-scsi-options-list =
"HUAWEI  S2600", "symmetric-option";     --- The added storage system information
#
#symmetric-option = 0x1000000;       --- Delete # at the beginning of the line, save the file, and exit.
6. Run the stmsboot –e command to globally enable the multipathing. After the server restarts, run the format command to view the displayed disk information, and ensure that the multipathing function is enabled.
7. The cause that disables the multipathing software of the Solaris 10 operating system is that the #symmetric-option = 0x1000000 command in the scsi_vhci.conf file does not take effect.
Root Cause
The #symmetric-option = 0x1000000 command in the scsi_vhci.conf configuration file does not take effect.
