Fail to Connect to the Database

Publication Date:  2012-07-24 Views:  31 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
When you install the Secospace eLog, the test database failure occurs. See the following figure.

When you perform operations on Web pages, the system prompts an error message. See the following figure.

On the log server, check the %LOGSERVER_ROOT%\var\logs\server.log log and find that "java.sql.SQLException" occurs.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process

1. Run the command described below on the server where the Secospace eLog is installed to check the network connection between the Secospace eLog and the database.
On the CLI, enter:
ping SQL-IP
"SQL-IP" refers to the IP address of the server where the database is installed. During the operations, ensure that you enter the IP address of the database.

  • If the system displays reply from..., it indicates that the Secospace eLog connects to the database properly. Go to step 2 to continue.
  • If the system does not display reply from..., it indicates that the Secospace eLog fails to connect to the database. Contact the administrator to solve the network interworking problem.

2. Run the command described below on the server where the Secospace eLog is installed to check whether the database is started.
On the CLI, enter:
telnet SQL-IP 1433
If the system displays Connecting To SQL-IP...Could not open connection to the host, on port 1433 : Could not open connection to the host, on port 1433, it indicates that the database is not started.
3. Log in to the server where the database is installed and start the database.
4. After that, log in to the Web page of the Secospace eLog. If the login succeeds, it indicates that the database works properly.

Root Cause

Wrong instance name was entered when installing the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Be sure that the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition was installed according to Installation Procedure in Installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition by Manual of the Secospace eLog Installation Guide. If you have not, reinstalling the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition according to Installation Procedure.

  • TCP/IP protocol of database is not enabled.
Enable the TCP/IP protocol, for the specific method, see Step 3 in the case Procedure for Locating Faults of Connecting to the Database Failure.
  • The Secospace eLog fails to access the database and this causes the failure mentioned above.
