When installing ultrapath aix system, the configured volume is locked.

Publication Date:  2012-09-20 Views:  149 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
In a site with s5500 storage, after constructing SAN environment, we install ultrapath on aix server. The volume group is available after configuring and testing volumes.
For meeting service, they change the port of controller A which connects fiber switch(from fc1 to fc2). Then, they find the constructed VG is unavailable when checking through server. Execute command “lsvg –p”, and the result shows all pv are active. Execute command “lsvg –l”, and the result shows volume group is locked.
Alarm Information
Null
Handling Process
1.Check fiber link connection. Normal.
2.Power off server
3.Restore fiber port to fc1.
4.Power on server. Command “lsvg –l” can be executed normal, but system prompts “file system breakdown” when mounting it. So “fsck” must be executed.
5.After executing fsck, the lv in this volume group can mount file system normal.
Root Cause
The WWN No. is different between fc1 and fc2. After exchanging the connection, no disk is available in aix. Update pv directory information in volume group.
Suggestions
After configuring VG in aix OS, do not change fiber connection. If have to, the pv must be cleaned first before changing fiber connection and rediscover it.
