Publication Date:  2012-09-22 Views:  49 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
There occurred the following error when the server did self-check of its hardware after the hard disk of the server was replaced in some bureau.
Alarm Information
none
Handling Process
Click “CTRL+H” to enter the configure interface of RAID. There may be two situations: the first is losing the disk while the disk is not broken and it is still in the slot. In this situation, the configure interface should be like this that it says “Foreign” in one of the disks which results from other RAID information contained in the disk.

Another situation is that one of disks is broken. Replace it with a spare one without any RAID information and the configure interface of RAID should be like this.

Click the hard disk that would be rebuilt (the one with “Foreign” information or the spare one), as is showed:

Select “Replace Missing PD”, and it occurred the interface below:

We should remember that don’t select “Make Online”, if we did, the “Rebuild Drive” operation can’t be done for the RAID information contained in the hard disk which would results in the collision between different RAID information and the collapse of RAID. Select “Rebuild Drive” and it occurred the interface:

The progress bar shows the process of rebuilding. The device could be used in the process of rebuilding, but we should enter the system and operate when the rebuilding is done for reading and writing data in the hard disk would make other operations slow even the lost of data. Back to the home interface, and the hard disk in the top shows palm which means the Rebuilding operation is in process.

When the Rebuild operation is over, quit and reboot. Then it works.
Root Cause
There were two different kinds of RAID information in the hard disk connected through RAID, which means the new hard disk contains RAID information.
Suggestions
Notes: This operation works for RAID 1078 only.
