The command to scan the disk returns after three minutes after the HP_UX hpv2 deleting all the LUN mappings

HBA board: HP AB379-60001 4Gb Dual Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter
Driver: libfcd.a HP Fibre Channel ISP 23xx & 24xx Driver B.11.23.08.02
Fault recurrence:
1. The host and the storage disk array have connected normally
2. Login in the management system of the storage disk array, create a LUN and map it to the host, login in the host, we can find the new mapped LUN.
3. Login the management system of the storage disk array again, release all the LUN mappings of the host, execute the “ioscan” command on the host and scan the disk, it returns after about 3 minutes and 10 seconds.

Handling Process
1. When substituting the mappings via the host of the HP_UX hpv2 operating system, delete one LUN and then create a corresponding new one, do this process repeatedly one by one, don’t delete all the LUNs at one time.
2. If all the LUN mappings have been deleted and scan the disk via the command “ioscan”, wait for about 3 minutes, let the “ioscan” return automatically because of overtime.

Root Cause
1. After deleting all the LUN mappings, the “ioscan” command dispenses to read the LUN, there is error information “Parameter in CDB invalid,Alloc Len 8 < 16” in the disk array logs.
According to the SPC-4 R19 protocol: the “” must greater than 16. It shows on the figure 1 and figure two.

2. Therefore, it caused by the CDB format dispensed by the HBA board was wrong, the disk array reported the error, and then the host dispensed the command to read the LUN repeatedly. This phenomenon is caused by the HBA board’s own fault.
Suggestions
1 Avoid to delete all the LUN mappings as far as possible
2. While replacing the mapping, substitute it one by one.
3. This solution is just suit for the host of the HP_UX hpv2 operating system
