Issue Description

After creating new virtual machine and binding users, modify the computer name according to the nominating rules, as the following displayed:
Sequence number:                               1
Computer ID:                                    i-40F8074E
Computer name:                             gdvm-huangjianh1
The attributed user:                         huangjianh1
The type of the virtual machine :   PreASSIGNED
IP:                                                      10.18.166.7
Rules ID:                                          vmspec-39c30853
The number of CPU:                            1
Memory (MB):                                      2048

The prefix of the computer name in the current nominating rules is: gdvm-$DomainUser$, the number digit and the beginning value of the sequence number are both 0:
The prefix of compute name                                 Number digit                                                     The beginning value of the sequence number
gdvm-$DomainUser$                                                           0                                                                        0

The user’s domain account is huangjianh1, add the prefix “gdvm-” according the nominating rules, the computer name has been modified as “gdvm-huangjianh1”, there are altogether 16 characters. Unassign this computer, there will prompt this process has been failed.

Handling Process
Modify the computer’s “machineName” in the DB server as the same with the one in the AD domain.
1. Login in the DB server, open the DB, and find the “VDESKTOP6000” database.
2. Open the “” table, and find the corresponding virtual machine, modify the “machineName” as this virtual machine’s computer name in the AD domain (not necessary to modify the “instanceName”), as the following picture displayed:
From:

To:

Then, there has refreshed on the ITA:

Sequence number                               Computer ID                             Computer name                                        The attributed user
1                                                               i-40F8074E                               gdvm-huangjianh                                       huangjianh1

Then, try to unassign again, it’s successful.

Root Cause
Login in the virtual machine and check “My computer”-> “Properties”-> “Computer name”, we find the computer name is “GDVM-HUANGJIANH” in the AD.
Because the computer’s NetBIOS name is confined 15 characters, so the computer “GDVM-HUANGJIANH1” has been shortened as “GDVM-HUANGJIANH”, and the computer name in the AD also has been shortened, try to modify the computer name which exceeding 15 characters manually, there will be the prompt “The computer’s NetBIOS name is confined 15 characters, the NetBIOS name will be shortened as “GDVM-HUANGJIANH”.”
Thus, if go on to release association for this virtual machine, because the computer name recorded in the database is “”, and it different from the computer name “” in the domain, thus it will cause the unassigning failed.

Suggestions
In the GUI manual, the nominating rules request the prefix and the “number digit” are altogether confined in the 15 characters and it begins as letter, it mainly asks the NetBIOS name can’t exceed 15 characters, so we should pay attention while configuring the computer name’s prefix and numbers.
