In the Suse 9 operating system, how to add the second path after the single path has started.

Publication Date:  2012-12-11 Views:  18 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The T8000 blade server connects with the S3100 storage through two HBA cards, the operating system of the server is Suse 9, it has installed the RDAC software. The server starts the system in the condition that one path has disconnected, then revive the disconnected path; in the operating system, we find there is only one path has started via the command to check the path information.

Alarm Information
Handling Process
There are 3 measures to add the second path:

1. Restart the server in the condition that the two paths are normal.
2. Execute the following command in the server:
[root@sjw /]# rmmod qla2300
                  [root@sjw /]# rmmod qla2xxx
                  [root@sjw /]# modprobe qla2xxx
                  [root@sjw /]# modprobe qla2300
However, the above two methods will interrupt the service, so we recommend the third method, it can add the new path without interrupting the service.
3. Execute the following command in the system:
      [root@sjw /]# mppBusRescan

Root Cause
Because there is only one path when the system is starting, and the other path is revived after the system has started, the RDAC can’t detect and initiate the new path, so there is only one path has been started.

While encountering some problems, make sure to know the reasons of the problem and try to find a best method to deal with it, in other words, it should take the least influence on the service
