eSpace U9160 PRA outgoing calls failure

Publication Date:  2014-04-30 Views:  107 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The customer was using a eSpace U1960 to make outgoing calls through a PRA trunk. At some point, the calls just started to fail.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
1. Asked customer to properly check the cables.
          Cables were ok.
2. Asked customer to check the connection between the CDR Server and the U1960 with the command "show billpool state".
          The connection was down.
3. Asked customer to check the billpool file state on the U1960 with the command "show billpool state".
          The billpool file was full.

At this point, most probably because of a network link failure, the connection between the U1960 and the CDR Server was down and the CDR records could not be retrieved by the CDR Server. In this case the billpool file got full and the calls started to fail.

4. To give a quick solution, the U1960 function of recording CDRs was disabled with the commad "config createbill switch off"
5. As soon as the network performance was back to normal and the connection between U1960 and the CDR Server was up again, the function of recording CDRs was enabled with the command "config createbill switch on" and the recording stored in the billpool file were normally retrieved by the CDR Server.
Root Cause
1. Asked customer to check the cables. - ok
2. Asked customer to check the CDR connection to the U1960. - disconnected
3. Asked customer to check the billpool file state on the U1960.
Suggestions
Make sure the IP network is redundantly implemented and any link failure can be backed up.
