S2200T ,Failed to map extended LUN

Issue Description

Product : S2200t

Version : V100R005C01

Symptom :

- customer  need to remove a LUN from the host and reassign it to a different host.

-  it is currently configured as a LUN extension. i.e. LUN001 & LUN004 .

-  when customer did this operation from ISM operation failed

- after we asked customer did he  delete the LUN mapping from the application server, and then delete the LUN mapping from the storage system : the answer was no, he tried to delete the lun mapping from the storage system fisrt.

- customer tried to  delete the LUN mapping from the storage system before delete the LUN mapping from the application server.

Solution

Solution :

1- Deleting a LUN Mapping from a Windows-based Application Server

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Windows-based application server as administrator.
  2. Right-click My Computer and choose Manage from the shortcut menu.

    The Computer Management dialog box is displayed.

  3. In the navigation tree of the Computer Management dialog box, choose Storage > Disk Management.
  4. Right-click the new volume area behind Disk1. (Disk1 is used for reference only, as highlighted in red in Figure 1.) Choose Change Drive Letter and Path from the shortcut menu.

     NOTICE:

    Deleting the drive number of a volume may interrupt the running programs. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

  5. In the Change Drive Letter and Paths for E: (New Volume) dialog box, select the drive number that you want to delete, and click Delete (as shown in the red area in Figure 2).

    The Confirm dialog box is displayed.

  6. Carefully read the content of the Confirm dialog box, and click Yes to allow the deletion of the drive number.

Operation Result

Under the Disk Management node, there is no drive number for Disk1.


2- Deleting a LUN Mapping from a Storage System

Prerequisite

The LUN mapping has already been deleted from the application server.


Procedure

  1. In the navigation tree, choose Storage Resources > LUNs.
  2. In the function pane, select the LUN whose mapping you want to delete, and choose Mappings > Remove LUN Mapping.

    The Remove LUN Mapping dialog box is displayed.

  3. Select the host group or host of the LUN mapping, and click OK.

    The Warning dialog box is displayed.

  4. Carefully read the content in the dialog box, and select I have read the warning message carefully.
  5. Click OK.

    The Result dialog box is displayed indicating that the operation succeeded.

  6. Click Close.

Operation Result

In the ISM function pane, select the LUN whose mapping you have deleted, and click the Mapped LUNs tab. No mapping information is displayed

when deleteing the mapping relationship between an application server and a storage system, we must first delete the LUN mapping from the application server, and then delete the LUN mapping from the storage system
