Hard Disks Cannot Be Detected Because the iBBU Cable Is Not Properly Connected

Publication Date:  2015-06-18 Views:  50 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Hardware configuration:
One LSISAS1078 controller card configured with an intelligent backup battery unit (iBBU) and two Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disks. SCSI refers to Small Computer System Interface.

Symptom:

A message is displayed indicating that configuration is lost during the self-check of the LSISAS1078 controller card, as shown in Figure 1. Log in to the iMana web user interface (WebUI) and find that hard disks cannot be detected.

Figure 1 Message displayed during the self-check of the LSISAS1078 controller card

Handling Process
1.  After confirmation, the problem occurs after the server mainboard is replaced. The cause may be that some components are not properly connected.

2.  Remove and reinsert the hard disks. The problem persists.

3.  Remove and reinsert the RAID controller card. The problem persists.

4.  Remove and reinsert the cable that connects the RAID controller card and the iBBU. The problem is solved.
Root Cause
The cable between the RAID controller card and the iBBU is not properly connected. As a result, the RAID controller card cannot detect hard disks.

Solution
Connect the cable between the RAID controller card and the iBBU again and ensure that the cable is properly connected.
