Issue Description
A backup job fails and the error code 48 (client hostname could not be found) is reported on the Activity Monitor.

After details about the backup job are checked, it is found that the error message client hostname could not be found (48) is displayed.

Handling Process
1.  Log in to the Integrated Storage Manager (ISM) of the media server as user admin. The default password is Admin@storage.

2.  In the navigation bar, choose Backup Management > Backup Configuration. In the function pane on the right, click Name Management.

The Name Management dialog box is displayed.

3.  Click Add.

The Add Network Host dialog box is displayed.

4.  In the Host name area, enter the host name of the client. In the IP address area, enter the IP address of the client. Click OK.

The Succeeded dialog box is displayed.

5.  Click OK.

6.  Perform the backup job again.
Root Cause
Possible Causes:

The hosts file of the master server or media server does not contain the host name resolution of the client.

Fault Diagnosis:

After details about the backup job are checked, it is found that the backup job uses a storage unit of the media server, as shown in Figure 1. (hdp3500e is an example of the media server's host name and the corresponding storage unit is stu-hdp3500e.)

Figure 1 Backup job information

After the hosts file of the media server is checked, the file does not contain the host name resolution of the client. Therefore, the backup job fails.
Suggestions
In most cases, faults of status 48 occur because the hosts file does not contain the host name resolution of the client. Check whether the hosts file of the master server or media server is correctly configured.
