A Backup Job Fails and Error Message "cannot connect on socket (status 25)" Is Displayed

Issue Description
A backup job fails and the error code 25 (cannot connect on socket) is reported on the Activity Monitor.



After details about the backup job are checked, it is found that the error message cannot connect on socket (25) is displayed.


Handling Process
Cause 1: The hosts file of the master server does not contain the host name resolution of the media server, or the resolution is incorrect.

1.  Log in to the ISM of the master server as user admin. The default password is Admin@storage.

2.  In the navigation bar, choose Backup Management > Backup Configuration. In the function pane on the right, click Name Management.

The Name Management dialog box is displayed.

3.  In Network Host Mapping, check whether the file contains the host name resolution of the media server.
  • If yes, go to 4.
  • If no, go to Cause 2.
4.  Click Add.

The Add Network Host dialog box is displayed.

5.  In the Host name area, enter the host name of the media server. In the IP address area, enter the IP address of the media server. Click OK.

The Succeeded dialog box is displayed.

6.  Click OK.

7.  Perform the backup job again.

Suggestions
In most cases, faults of status 25 occur because the hosts file of the master server or media server does not contain the host name resolution. Check whether the hosts file of the master server or media server is correctly configured.
