Failure to Delete Media on the NetBackup Administration Console

In the navigation tree of the NetBackup Administration Console, select a medium and attempt to delete it. An error message is displayed indicating that you cannot delete a medium that has been allocated. The symptom is:

Start a Secure Shell (SSH) tool and run the /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpmedialist -L command to list the media. If STATUS of a medium is EXPIRED, this medium has expired.
Handling Process
1.  Make the medium expire.

     a. Run the cd /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd command.

     b. Run the ./bpexpdate -m 000014 -d 0 command, where 000014 is the Media ID of the medium.

2.  Delete the medium.

     a. In the navigation tree of the NetBackup Administration Console, click Media.

     b. Right-click the medium that you want to delete and choose Delete from the shortcut menu.
Root Cause
The NetBackup has already allocated the medium to a client for this client's data backup, and the status of this medium changes from Available to Assigned. If the medium has not expired after the backup task is complete, the NetBackup does not allow you to delete the medium.
