A Network Disconnection During a Failover Led to an IP Replication Failure

Publication Date:  2015-07-31 Views:  52 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Product and version: VTL6000 V100R003

In a failover environment, the connection to the target server breaks down when IP replication is being performed, causing a failover. Another VTL server takes over services from the target VTL server. After 4 or 5 minutes, the replication task is in a failed state on the source VTL server.
Handling Process
1.  Restart the IP replication task manually.

In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, right-click the tape or tape library related to the failed IP replication task and choose Replication > Synchronize from the shortcut menu.

2.  Modify the retry parameter.

a.  In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, right-click the tape or tape library related to the failed IP replication task and choose Replication > Properties from the shortcut menu.

b.  In the dialog box that is displayed, reset Timeout replication and Retry replication for.
Root Cause
During a failover or failback process, there is a period of about three minutes when all I/Os are forbidden. If you start a backup task in the period, all backup operations fail, including import, export, and replication.
