A Storage Unit Cannot Be Detected on the VTL Console and the Database Icon Is Red

Issue Description
Products and versions:

VTL6000 V100R003
VTL6900 V100R005

The symptom is:

In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, click Physical Resources. The LUNs mapped from a storage unit to the VTL server are not displayed.
In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, choose Virtual Tape Library System > Database. The database icon is red.
Handling Process
Possible cause 1: The optical fiber between the VTL server and the storage unit is not firmly inserted.

Reinsert the two end of the optical fiber.

Possible cause 2: The optical fiber between the VTL server and storage unit is damaged.

Replace the optical fiber.

Possible cause 3: RAID group or LUN information of the storage unit is changed.

1.  Rescan for devices.

  a. In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, right-click Physical Resources and choose Rescan from the shortcut menu.
  b. In the Specify Adapter, SCSI ID and LUN ranges to scan dialog box that is displayed, select Discover New Devices and specify the SCSI ID range.
  c. Click OK to start a scan.

2.  Import the VTL configuration file.

  a. Log in to the VTL server using PuTTY.
      The default user name and password are root and Admin@storage respectively.
  b. Go to the directory of the VTL configuration file.
      The VTL configuration file is generally saved in the /usr/local/vtl/bin/ directory.
  c. Run the vtlrecover restore backup-config.bz2 command to restore the configuration information,
      where backup-config.bz2 indicates the configuration file name.

NOTE:
The restoration may take 10 minutes. The actual time is subject to the number of tapes on the VTL server
Root Cause
Possible cause 1: The optical fiber between the VTL server and the storage unit is not firmly inserted.

Possible cause 2: The optical fiber between the VTL server and storage unit is damaged.

Possible cause 3: RAID group or LUN information of the storage unit is changed.
Suggestions
When configuring a database, create a mirror for the database. In addition, use different LUNs for the database and the mirror database.
