Three Indicators of a VTL Server's Fibre Channel Port Connected to a Backup Server Are Simultaneously Blinking

Issue Description
A VTL server's Fibre Channel port connected to a backup server has three indicators. Normally, only one indicator is steady on or blinking.

   If indicator 8 is steady on or blinking, data is transferred at a rate of 8 Gbit/s between the VTL server and the backup server.
   If indicator 4 is steady on or blinking, data is transferred at a rate of 4 Gbit/s between the VTL server and the backup server.
   If indicator 2 is steady on or blinking, data is transferred at a rate of 2 Gbit/s between the VTL server and the backup server.

If the three indicators are blinking at the same time, the VTL server cannot communicate with the backup server.
Handling Process
Possible cause 1: The VTL server is disconnected from the backup server.

1.  Reinsert the optical fiber that connects the VTL server to the backup server.

2.  Check the indicator status of the VTL server's Fibre Channel port.
  • If only one indicator is steady on or blinking, the fault is rectified.
  • If the three indicators are blinking at the same time, go to 3.
3.  Replace the optical fiber that connects the VTL server to the backup server.

4.  Check the indicator status of the VTL server's Fibre Channel port.
  • If only one indicator is steady on or blinking, the fault is rectified.
  • If the three indicators are blinking at the same time, go to Possible cause 2.
Possible cause 2: The VTL server has a different Fibre Channel port from the backup server.

1.  Log in to the VTL server using PuTTY. The default user name and password are root and Admin@storage respectively.

2.  Run the vi/usr/local/vtl/etc/fshba.conf command.

3.  Press i to enter the edit mode, and reset connection_option-hba.
  • If the VTL server is directly connected to the backup server, change the value to 0 (LOOP mode).
  • If the VTL server is connected to the backup server through a Fibre Channel switch, change the value to 1 (P2P mode).
4.  Run the :wq ! command to save the setting and exit the edit mode.

5.  Run the vtl restart all command to restart all services of the VTL server.

6.  Check the indicators of the Fibre Channel port.
  • If only one indicator is steady on or blinking, the fault is rectified.
  • If the three indicators are still blinking at the same time, contact Huawei technical support.
Root Cause
Possible Causes:

The VTL server is disconnected from the backup server.

The VTL server has a different Fibre Channel port from the backup server.
