UPS2000-G-10KRTL--- Cannot monitor UPS2000-G-10KRTL through RMS-SNMP01A service in SCOM

Publication Date:  2016-05-24 Views:  291 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
  • Cannot monitor UPS2000-G-10KRTL through RMS-SNMP01A service in the SCOM (Microsoft System Center Operations Manager).
SNMP01A Trap events are not received and processed by SCOM (Microsoft System Center Operations Manager).

  • The RMS-SNMP01A Web monitoring  of the UPS2000-G-10KRTL shows parameters correctly, but not response to SNMP request from SCOM.

Handling Process

SCOM 2007 R2 offers basic network device monitoring. SCOM 2012 supports SNMP v1, v2 and v3, and works with both IP v4 and v6. The SNMP stack is native to SCOM 2012. SCOM 2007 R2 used the OS SNMP stack.

After analyzing the 2 screen shots (of the SCOM and WebUI) provided by customer, further,  in order to find out why the SNMP01A Trap events are not received by SCOM, we need to:

1. Check the NMS address, there needs be added the actual IP address of the  PC on which is installed SCOM software.
From the screen shot provided by customer,  the NMS addr “xxx.x.x.x” looks to not be ok , due to this there needs to be added the actual IP address of  PC on which is installed SCOM software.

For reference, find the below screenshot:

.

 2. Check the below parameters to be as follows:
-          Parameter “Read community” of SNMP card and Parameter “Community” of SCOM need to have the same value.
-          Parameter “Write community” of SNMP card and Parameter “Write community” of SCOM need to have the same value.

Solution
  1. Add in WebUI, the actual correct  IP address of  PC on which is installed SCOM software.
  2. Modify the Parameter “Read community” of SNMP card and Parameter “Community” of SCOM,  in order to have the same value.
  3. Modify the Parameter “Write community” of SNMP card and Parameter “Write community” of SCOM, in order to have the same value.
