ES3000 V2 create local storage on /dev/hioa1 fail

Issue Description

The software version is XenServer release 6.5.0 in ES300 V2,when the customer try to create local storage on /dev/hioa1,it is fail.it appreas  logical Volume partition creation error [opterr=error is 5]

Handling Process

 1.

  Use fdisk on the /dev/hioa partition,as below:

   

2.use the order  : xe sr-create type=ext
content-type=user name-label=ES3000 device-config:device=/dev/hioa1
,it is fail as the SR ticket,check     /var/log/SMlog,Ii is pvcreate fail




 
  3.  creat    pvcreate /dev/hioa1,it is fail too,Use
pvcreate – VVV /dev/hioa to check the details
,Found that lvm is not recognized hio the main device number 252, so that
the hio device number was filtered


   4.Set the lvm configuration file:vi /etc/lvm/lvm.conf,Set the types field,Add [ ”hio”,device type ] in the field, Specify the hio master number setting according to the main device number
shown in step 3
(example:My machine number is 252,maybe it is different from yours),Let lvm not shield hio

5.   Use    xe sr-create type=ext content-type=user
name-label=ES3000 device-config:device=/dev/hioa1
,Created the local disk successfully

 

     Check   /var/log/SMlog, Show pvcreate created successfully

Root Cause

  pvcreate does not recognize the major  machine number of hio and can not create a physical volume

Solution

Set the lvm configuration file:vi/etc/lvm/lvm.conf,Set the types field,Add [ ”hio”,device type ] in the field, Specify the hio master number setting according to the main device number shown in step 3(example:My machine number is 252,maybe it is different from yours),Let lvm not shield hio

 

 

 

Suggestions

  Check the /var/log/SMlog log to see the xe command execution
