Issue Description

The negotiation remain blocked at the PPPoE negotiation phase, not begin the PPP negotiation, so we can’t see any PPP outputs. The AR sent out the PADI packet, but didn’t receive PADO from the remote side.

Huawei Versatile Routing Platform Software
VRP (R) software, Version 5.160 (AR160 V200R007C00SPCb00)

interface Dialer1
   link-protocol ppp
   ppp chap user user1
   ppp chap password cipher %^%#,>9~M",o$%pe<A$,52a@l)6RN`JNf>Y
   ppp pap local-user user1 password cipher %^%#21dD5!/a{JLb>1X(#p{Leb:cQh,y2
   ip address ppp-negotiate
   dialer user dialuser
   dialer bundle 1
   dialer-group 10

interface Ethernet0/0/0
   pppoe-client dial-bundle-number 1

The connection remain in LCP initial state. From the capture, we can see that AR router has sent out the pppoe discovery packet and there’s no pppoe offer packet received.

Handling Process

Check if on the other side is used a vlan TAG.

Root Cause

In this situation on the other side was requested a vlan tag.

Solution

The problem has been solved using a sub interface on the AR in the place of the interface to use the vlan tag:

     interface Ethernet0/0/0

   pppoe-client dial-bundle-number 1

     Interface Ethernet 0/0/0.101

    Dot1q termination vid 101

          pppoe-client dial-bundle-number 1
