Customer lost WWN after server reboot

Issue Description

Customer reboot the server with the OS Windows Server 2012 R2 after boot up, the LUN’s that were mapped to the server host they never became Online, and customer was not able to see the LUN


Alarm Information

From the Windows host customer cannot see the disk and from Storage the host appear like Offline


Handling Process

Firstly, we need to analysis all the logs and topology

  • Topology
  • Storage Logs
  • Server hardware logs and OS logs
  • Switch logs and configuration

It is important to have topology to make sure there is not issue with the connection and compare with the logs. 

Root Cause


After review the Topology and switch configuration, we were able to determine the problem is that the switch configuration is transparent in this configuration, one blade WWPN just register on one SNS switch, if the WWPN register on SWA, so the SWB is empty. So, when it occur failover, the WWPN register on SWB and no correct zone configuration in SWB ,So the blade lost the communication with Oceanstor 5600.

Solution

To solve the issue is necessary to customer change the current topology and connect only on interface from the embedded switch to SAN Switch.
