- Cannot create replication pairs -> Remote LUNs are not visible in the wizard


Background


After testing a DR solution based on Remote Replication and switching back to normal functionality, the customer deleted the replication pairs in order to extend the LUNs.

When trying to recreate the pairs in the Wizard, the remote LUNs were not visible.

This was because on the remote storage device, all the LUNs were in a LUN Group that was part of a mapping view.

So all the LUNs were marked as mapped in Device Manager, even if they were no longer mapped to any host.

Handling Process

Check if the remote LUNs are part of a LUN Group that has a Mapping View


Root Cause

Even though a LUN is not mapped to a host, if it is part of a Mapping View, it will be unavailable as a remote LUN in a remote replication pair.

The system considers that it is reserved to be mapped to a host.


Solution

You can either:

- Delete the Mapping View on the remote storage device

- Remove the remote LUN from its current LUN Group and add it to a LUN Grup that is not part of a Mapping View (you can create a new LUN Group, if none of the current ones is unmapped)
