Bandwidth utilization for WDM

Issue Description

The WDM ETH board does not support a feature of calculating a bandwidth utilization, for example the board LOG.

Solution

 

The bandwidth utilization formula is [(Number of bytes x 8) divide by sampling period] divide with the actual configured bandwidth.

1. Query the RMON





Information:

-> Good Octet Receive (bytes) means the total packet received in bytes, while Good Octet Transmitted (byte) means the total packet received in bytes.

-> Because of the receive/transmit in bytes, we must convert it to bits. 1 byte = 8 bits.

-> The Sampling Period is 5 second. That is means the total receive/transmit bits are in 5 second. Because we want to compare with the configured bandwidth (1Gbps or 1Mbps or 1kbps), thus the total receive/transmit bit must be divided by 5, to get the total of 1 second receive/transmit bits.

-> The result of the divided by 5, we divide by the actual configured bandwidth ( in this case, we divide by 1Gbps)

 

2. Download the attachment (excel file) and do calculation.
