AR NQA Failover not working

Issue Description

1. Customer is having Primary & Secondary active-active managed services from ISP
2. PE – CE is having BGP routing protocol whereas in LAN customer running VRRP for redundancy purpose.
3. At Customer end, ISP has delivered the services with managed HUAWEI Router.
4. Customer has taken downtime window with us to do auto failover on his Primary & Secondary Link.
5. ISP has configured and enabled “track” on both primary & secondary customer end HUAWEI router for auto failover but it didn’t work.
6. When ISP is checking with “display nqa results” on HUAWEI customer end router, it is showing us “100% packet loss ratio” but it doesn’t decreasing the VRRP priority value which we had configured on LAN Interface.

Alarm Information

checking with “display nqa results” on HUAWEI customer end router, it is showing us “100% packet loss ratio” but it doesn’t decreasing the VRRP priority value which we had configured on LAN Interface.

Handling Process

1. From our checking, the Completion state is no result, so the VRRP track NQA function will not be effective, so failover failed.


2. As document, you can see below illustration, should be failed state, then priority of the VRRP will be decreased.


3. And from our checking, even if the Lost packet ratio of NQA survey result is 0%, the Completion state also is no result

Root Cause

The unreasonable frequency value of NQA parameter causing the VRRP track NQA function will not be effective, so failover failed.

Solution

adjust the frequency value of NQA with 30

1. Stop the NQA survey
nqa test-instance MONITER ICMP
 stop

2. Change the frequency value to 30
nqa test-instance MONITER ICMP
 frequency 30

3. Start the NQA survey
nqa test-instance MONITER ICMP
start now

Then I think you can see the Completion state is success when link is ok.

Suggestions

if the frequency configured ≤ (probe-count - 1) × interval + 6, the Completion field in the test results will be displayed as no result.

so need make sure the parameter should be reasonable, need configure the frequency value is large enough
