The BTS reports ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm when operators replace the DTMU

Publication Date:  2018-04-11 Views:  63 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Link disconnection is tested for VIP BTSs. When the transmission recovers, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported. When TRX software is activated, this alarm is cleared. However, a message is displayed, indicating that software activation has ever failed.

Version Information:

Handling Process
Onsite conditions indicate that the DTMU has ever been replaced before ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported. After board replacement, this alarm is reported. This alarm is reported because the TRX software version in use is inconsistent with that recorded by the DTMU flash during software activation.

A test is conducted in the lab to verify the onsite problem.

1. The current TRX version is V100R008C11SPC036. After the software of V100R008C11SPC020 is loaded and the TRX board is reset, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported. When the software of V100R008C11SPC020 is activated, a message is displayed, indicating that the software cannot be activated because its version is the same as that of the activated software. After Confirm is clicked, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is cleared.

2. Site A is configured with a single TRX, and the TRX version is V100R008C11SPC020. When a TRX board for site B whose TRX board version is V100R008C11SPC026 is removed and then added to site A, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported. In this situation, the newly added TRX board runs the software of V100R008C11SPC020.

3. Two TRXs for a site are configured for two boards, respectively, and their software version is V100R008C11SPC020. When software of V100R008C11SPC026 is loaded and activated for one TRX board, this board automatically resets. When it works properly, its software version is V100R008C11SPC026. In this situation, the software version for the other TRX board remains V100R008C11SPC020, and no ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported. When the DTMU board is reset, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported, and the software of the other TRX board is automatically upgraded to V100R008C11SPC026.

The above verification indicates that ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm will be reported as long as a TRX board is used and the TRX software version is inconsistent with that recorded by the DTMU flash during software activation.

After the DTMU board is replaced, the TRX board will run the TRX software saved in the DTMU flash. However, the software version recorded by the DTMU flash during software activation may be different from the TRX software version in use. Consequently, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported.
Suggestions
Customers disconnect the transmission links onsite and then replace the DTMU. After board replacement, ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is repeatedly reported. Historical alarms show that each ALM-4764 SW Not Activated Alarm is reported again after a BTS reset, which indicates this alarm persists.

This alarm is reported because the TRX software version in use is inconsistent with that recorded by the DTMU flash during software activation.

You need to activate TRX software.
