The BFD Session Set up Between an NE40E and a non-Huawei Device for Static Routes Fail to Go Up

Issue Description

Networking:

NE40E (1.1.1.1 G 1/0/0)----------(1.1.1.2 G 2/0/0) C router

The NE40E is connected to the C router that is a non-Huawei device, and a BFD session is set up between them to monitor static routes. However, the BFD session cannot go Up after being set up.

Handling Process

1.         The on-site Huawei technical support personnel check the configuration on the C router. The configuration is as follows.

interface GigabitEthernet2/0/0

 ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.252

 bfd interval 50 min_rx 50 multiplier 3

ip route static bfd GigabitEthernet2/0/0 1.1.1.2

ip route the service network segment of the NE40E GigabitEthernet2/0/0 1.1.1.2

Root Cause

The NE40E supports the static configuration of a BFD session for static routes by manually specifying discriminators. However, the C router supports the static configuration of a BFD session with auto-negotiated discriminators only. The difference in the feature implementation causes the BFD session to fail to go Up.

Solution
Configure a BFD session statically on the NE40E with auto-negotiated discriminators by specifying the auto parameter in the command. The configuration is as follows.
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/0
 ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.252
bfd bfd_C bind peer-ip 1.1.1.2 interface GigabitEthernet1/0/0 source-ip 1.1.1.1 auto
min-tx-interval 50
 min-rx-interval 50
