FAQ: Why Do Logs on the Master NE80E Record Only the VRRP Status Switchover From BACKUP to MASTER?

Publication Date:  2013-09-03 Views:  24 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Why do logs on the master NE80E record only the VRRP status switchover from BACKUP to MASTER but not switchover from MASTER to BACKUP?

May 15 2009 01:50:33 HN-XT-HD-CE-1.CDMA %%01VRRP/4/STATEWARNING(l): Virtual Router state BACKUP changed to MASTER, because of priority calculation.
(Interface=Eth-Trunk2.450, VrId=45)
Handling Process
N/A
Root Cause
N/A
Solution
1. When the master NE80E receives packets with priority 0, the preceding log is generated, which is normal. This process is used to simulate a switchover from BACKUP to MASTER for sending gratuitous ARP packets. In this case, this NE80E is always in MASTER state, but does not switch from MASTER to BACKUP and then from BACKUP to MASTER.
2. When the local NE80E regardless in MASTER or Backup mode receives packets with priority 0, a switchover from BACKUP to MASTER is triggered and the preceding log is generated.
3. When the master NE80E receives packets with a priority higher than the local priority or its interface is Down, the master NE80E sends packets with priority 0. The backup NE80E does not send packets with priority 0.
