BFD Session Flapping Occurred Because Third-Party Equipment Did Not Transparently Transmit Packets with VLAN Tags

Issue Description

Networking: NE40E (PE)-----Third-party transmission equipment-----NE40E (PE)

The VLANIF interfaces on NE40Es was bound with a unicast BFD session. The BFD session was transiently interrupted and the link failed to work.

Handling Process

Huawei checked whether third-party transmission equipment supported transparent transmission of BFD packets with VLAN tags. The transmission equipment did not support transparent transmission of packets with VLAN tags.

An NE40E configured with unicast BFD on its VLANIF interface sends BFD detection packets with VLAN tags and BFD negotiation packets without VLAN tags. Therefore, BFD interoperability failed.
Root Cause
The intermediate third-party transmission equipment did not support transparent transmission of packets with VLAN tags.
Solution

1. Enable transparent transmission of packets with VLAN tags on the transmission equipment.

2. Deploy multicast BFD, instead of unicast BFD, and bind the BFD with the VLANIF interface.
